Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
The Betsy Lewis Tennis Challenge is a “mixed rubbers” format. Teams are made up of 2 men and 2 women. Each match is played on two courts and consists of a set of women’s doubles and a set of mens doubles played at the same time, then a set of mixed doubles played at the same time. If tied after 4 sets, the fewest games lost settles the tie. In the unlikely event that the teams are still tied, a mixed tie-break will decide the match.
How do the rankings work?
The highest pair that can be fielded is the team level. For example, two 4.0 women playing with two 3.5 men are rated at 8.0.
What are the level categories?
6.5 and below, 7.0 to 7.5, and 8.0 and above. Subject to change depending on the entries. We would like to have an “open” level this year. Let us know if you are interested.
How many people are you expecting?
Tough question. In 2009, we expected 150 and ended up accomodating 240 players.
Can kids play?
This is a fun tournament. Everyone that can play match-play tennis is welcome. Our goal is to raise money for the Healing Arts program at the Zimmer Cancer Center at NHRMC.
What’s up with the social?
It was a big timelast year. We had food and beverages provided by our wonderful sponsors. We’ll have prizes, a silent auction, and more. You really don’t want to miss the social.
How much does it cost?
$25 per person, $100 per team. All entries are tax deductible. You are always welcome to donate more.

About
We will always remember the way Betsy Lewis flipped her long beautiful ponytail on the tennis court as she served the ball. Betsy loved tennis.
Betsy lost a courageous battle with cancer on November 27, 2007.
The Betsy W Lewis Tennis Challenge is a tribute to Betsy's spirit; and to the doctors and nurses at the Zimmer Cancer Center who cared for Betsy during her illness. Embrace this opportunity to play a sport you love and help those in the community who need it. Let's keep Betsy on the courts and in our hearts!
